Common Saniflo Problems We Fix
Saniflo not flushing properly
Problem: Your Saniflo isn’t flushing as powerfully as before, or waste is not clearing completely.
Fix: This could be due to limescale buildup, a partially blocked waste pipe, or a failing motor. Try using an approved Saniflo descaler (check out our Saniflo cleaning guide) and check the waste outlet for blockages. If the issue persists, book an approved Saniflo engineer for a professional inspection.
Saniflo making a loud noise
Problem: Your macerator is unusually noisy, making grinding, rattling, or buzzing sounds.
Fix: Loud noises often indicate a foreign object stuck in the blades, worn-out motor bearings, or a faulty capacitor. Stop using the unit immediately to prevent further damage and call an approved Saniflo repair specialist for a fix.
Saniflo not draining waste
Problem: Water and waste are not leaving the toilet, sink, or shower.
Fix: This is usually due to a blocked or kinked discharge pipe, a faulty non-return valve, or an airlock. First, check for visible blockages in the outlet pipe. If the issue continues, you’ll need a Saniflo engineer to inspect and repair the system.
Blocked Saniflo macerator
Problem: Your Saniflo unit won’t pump waste, and the toilet bowl may be backing up.
Fix: A blockage in the macerator could be caused by flushing non-degradable items (wet wipes, sanitary products, etc.) or heavy limescale buildup. Try using Saniflo descaler (check out our Saniflo cleaning guide), but avoid chemical drain cleaners. If it’s still blocked, a professional Saniflo engineer can dismantle and safely clean the unit.
Saniflo pump not switching off
Problem: The pump keeps running continuously, even when no water is flowing.
Fix: This is likely caused by a faulty microswitch, debris stuck in the impeller, or a jammed float switch. Turn off the unit at the mains to prevent overheating, and book a Saniflo repair engineer to diagnose the fault.
